Let Me Help You Live Your Passion

leapmountain[1]

I was just let go from my full time job. It’s scary but at the same time I know that another window is opening up.

I was holding off on revealing this new part of Financially Poor because I wanted to make sure all of the little details are ironed out like price and such. But now that I was just thrown off of a mountain, I’m going to jump into this head first.

What is it you ask? Hold on a sec. Let me lead up to it so I can give it some suspense.

For the past 2 years I’ve been doing a job that has given me knowledge and skills to do what I love, which is help people.

I’ve also, on the side, been building up a web empire, once again doing what I love. I truly believe that the web is the place to be when it comes to making your passion = your lively hood.

There is no easier, cheaper way with as much reach as the internet. Dreams can be made, and passions can be followed for next to nothing.

What I want to do now is teach you all of the knowledge I’ve soaked up through the years of what it takes to Live Your Passion. Is it easy? Meh, It’s not the most difficult thing in the world and with the knowledge and motivation that I can provide you, it will be even easier.

I want to teach you that you can do what you want and make an income doing it. If I can do it, I know anyone can.

I’m just like you, but I probably had a less likely chance of succeeding. I only have some college experience (because what they were teaching, I didn’t want to learn), I slacked off in high school because I was bored and just wanted to have fun.

I’m not a a regular 9-5 worker like the world wants to be and I don’t think most people should be. It takes away from your short life.

Now with that info you may ask yourself why you should listen to me. Well, because despite not having a college degree, or the best high school GPA, I’m making a living doing what I love. Can you say that?

I want to teach you that you can do it. It’s not impossible like you think. All it takes is a little switch to be turned on in your mind and I can flip that switch for you.

I’m not going to do a long spiel here, so find out more by clicking below. I really hope you do take the leap to Living Your Passion and not put it off until tomorrow because you’ll never succeed with the cycle of putting it off.coachingsales[1]

Every Minute Counts

One of the greatest equalizers in life is time; or more specifically, the amount of time that we all have at our disposal. You will often find this to be the subject of many Twitter and Facebook status messages or of rants and excuses during an informal discussion over beer and chips. Simply put, there are simply too many things to do and not enough time to do all of those things.

That sore subject is particularly vexing when we talk about maximizing our earnings potential. The crux of the matter is this: there isn’t enough time to pursue multiple interests and earning avenues. If we work at an office, chances are that we do not have time at the end of the day to do anything else. If we manage a business, we are almost always queued into that business with no room to pursue other interests. We sit for a minute or two of rest and the next thing we know, we’ve lost an hour on the clock.

And then there are the distractions. The internet is a particularly worrisome opponent. People spend inordinate amounts of time on Facebook and Twitter without having anything to show for it. We watch too much TV and regularly visit the cinemas. At the end of it all, we are stuck with the truth that we are spending more than we are earning. The truth about our personal finance is that the balance just plainly doesn’t exist because we are not able to put in as much time as we want towards earning via secondary means.

Ask your friends and you will find this to be an almost universal dilemma.

It is actually for this reason that the infographic below is a real eye opener for anyone that wants to earn more but just can’t find the time to do it. Ask yourself this: what can I accomplish in 10 minutes? If you say, “not much”, then think again.

Now, ask yourself this again: what can I do in 10 minutes?

The answer is entirely up to you, and it most certainly isn’t “not much.” When you begin cutting all the slack here and there, you will undoubtedly find more time to grow your business and help your personal finances. All it takes is perspective, and some serious commitment to time management.

We Do Not Think About This Enough

Through life we make choices that define us. We make these choices based on our experiences and where we are in life.

If we’re not selfish, we think about how our choices will effect our loved ones. If we are selfish then we’ll think about how the choices affect us.

For 99.9% of the decisions we make in life don’t ever take in the fact that we are going to die.

Now here me out before you say I’m being a downer.

I’m not talking about being scared of death, far from it.

I’m talking about acknowledging that we aren’t here forever and living a fulfilling life is more important than living a life full of things we think we have to do.

The big example I like to bring up is work.

Is it necessary to work a job all day away from your family? You may say yes but is it really?

What is more important, spending time away from your family so that you can buy them a big house with a big TV and a bunch of video games? Or a modest house with more time spent together as a family?

If you remember that one day you won’t be there to make money for your family to have all of the finer things in life, then maybe we can change our attitude about how we make choices.

Set a date when you are going to die. I’m going to die in 50 years, so that’s how long I have to accomplish everything I’ve ever wanted to do.

Am I going to waste 35 of my most fruitful years in a job I don’t want to wake up for?

No!

I can go through life waking up in the morning, having some coffee and maybe reading the paper, head to work, come back home, eat dinner, watch TV, go to sleep.

It is possible to do that. But do you want to look back over your life and wish that you made a different decision in life and changed up your routine everyday?

Habit and routine have an unbelievable power to waste and destroy.

~Henri de Lubac

Is it possible to do that? Is it possible not to work all day? Hell yea.

Is it easy to get to that point? No! But it is possible and it doesn’t take a lifetime to learn.

All it takes is for you to always remember that you won’t be here one day. So what are you doing today to ensure that you have no regrets when you’re on your death bed?

Make life count, you only have one!

Do you think having death on your mind would affect your decisions in life?

The Ultimate Guide To Sharing Your Passion

iStock_000012931845XSmall

A passion is something that you can’t keep hidden. It flows through you like the rivers flowed through the Grand Canyon.

It shapes you into the person that you will be, not who you are today.

There is only one way to let that river flow through someone else, and that is by sharing your passion and knowledge about it.

The most efficient way to do that is through the web. No, not a spider web.

The Interwebs = The internet.

The most amazing thing in the world that connects everyone together.

Can you imagine a more powerful place to share your passion?

I know you think it may not be the easiest thing to start up, but creating a website these days is as easy as taking candy from a baby. We’ll according to MythBusters (#7), taking candy from a baby isn’t really that easy, but I digress.

So let me show you how I started up this fancy website you’re on right now.

Hosting & Domain

The first thing you’re going to need is a place to put your lovely website.

I originally started with Bluehost but found that they were lacking in the uptime department (my site was unable to be accessed by people for periods at a time). Other people have had better results with them so do what you may, but I chose a host that I’m so happy with and adore.

HostGator

My site rarely ever goes down, maybe once or twice in the very early AM…ever. So I’m ecstatic and highly recommend getting their baby plan so that you can have more than one site on your account (if you choose to expand into new passions).

After you get a host, the next step is a site name/Domain. I highly recommend NameCheap.

It’s best to have your domain separate from your hosting, in case you want to switch hosts like i did (unfortunately I didn’t do that for this site, so don’t you do the same).

They have pretty cheap domain names and they’re running specials every month.

Once you have that setup, just go to your HostGator account and quick install WordPress.

It’s the best content management system on Earth (IMHO). It’s the brains of the operation.

Theme

Now, how are you going to make the site look like mine? Well that’s where the theme comes in.

Yes there are a lot of free themes, and even some moderately priced ones, but they aren’t going to give you the flexibility to Do What You Want.

That’s where the Thesis Theme comes into play. It’s amazing, with great support, and you can do anything with it. I love it and highly recommend it.

Yes there is a learning curve but that’s what Google and the Thesis support forum is there for. Most people have done what you want to do and will share the details with you.

Graphics

The look is what brings it all together.

No you don’t have to know how to Photoshop, although it helps. Lifehacker has a great tutorial to get you acquainted and lots of videos to help you out.

But the place that I went to make this site look like it does is……..Graphic River.

I just search around there and find a texture I like and then add it to this site.

That’s where I got the background for the site and pretty much all of my images with any type of background. It’s a great site that can really help you make a great looking site.

Yes you do have to buy them, but they are very cheap for the power that they can add to your website.

But all of that looks really hard

It’s not as hard as it looks and there are a lot of tutorials out on Google about html, CSS, and Thesis.

But, for some, it may be hard to grasp. And for that, the wonderful world of outsourcing is for you.

I have never outsourced site creation and probably never will, but I have outsourced other aspects of my business and I did it through Odesk.

They are a great company and if you choose to hire hourly, the worker has to use the Odesk application, which takes pictures at short intervals so you can make sure they’re not wasting your money on playing solitaire.

Just be careful, don’t be gullible (I’m pretty sure you can’t find that word in the dictionary) and make sure you interview. And most of all, be clear with what you want, they’re not mind readers.

That’s it, that’s how I made my site look the way it does and how you can get started.

I like sharing my knowledge, so if you want to learn more about creating a website for your passion and making money from it, check out my Do What You Want 10 day eCourse. I have a great free offer in there if you are unsure of your ability of creating your website.

How Women Can Get Ahead in a Tough Economy

Women have made great strides in the workplace over the past few decades, but the sad fact is that their earnings, in most fields, are lower than those of men who work in similar positions and have similar education. By some estimates, women only make 80 cents (or less) to every dollar a man earns. Understandably, many women are frustrated by this inequity.

As a result, women are on the lookout for ways they can get ahead. Small changes can make a big difference in how you are perceived in the workplace, and how much you see in your paycheck.

Learn New Skills

You were first hired for your skills and knowledge, but that doesn’t mean you should rest on your laurels and assume that your existing abilities will bring take you to the top. The business world is constantly changing. It’s up to you to stay on top of the developments and enhance your abilities accordingly. This might mean attending conferences or workshops on topics related to your field, seeking out training opportunities or even an advanced degree like a master in health administration.

Find a Mentor

Some companies have formal mentorship programs that pair upper-level executives with less experienced workers. A mentor can provide feedback, access to the inner workings of the organization and advice on how to handle issues that you might face day-to-day. They can prove to be valuable allies as you climb the corporate ladder. If you don’t have a mentor, consider who in your organization you might connect with. Discuss the possibility of developing a closer working relationship.

Take Risks

One reason that women don’t get ahead at work is they resist taking risks, instead waiting until the “time is right” or they feel more comfortable with whatever it is they need to do. However, to land the highest-paying healthcare management jobs for example, women must be willing to get out of their comfort zones and do things that might make them nervous, but will pay off in dividends later. That might mean volunteering for a high-profile project, proposing a major process change or speaking up more often with more force.

Promote Yourself

Experts say that too often, women wait for others to promote them in the workplace. And, all too often, the accolades they deserve are late in coming, if they come at all. Women who want to get ahead need to be self-promoters, letting their superiors know about their accomplishments. That doesn’t mean being a braggart, but sending your boss a quick email to let her know that you’ve made significant progress on a problem or facilitated a major win for the organization will get you noticed.

Be Visible

If you show up to work every day and hide in your cubicle, performing your work and going home, you’re never going to get to the top. Don’t be invisible. Make it a point to network within your organization, chatting up everyone from the mailroom manager to the executive sharing the elevator. Be the friendly face that is interested in others’ work. Attend networking events outside of work as well. Work cocktail parties or golf tournaments might seem dull, but that’s when you can get the real scoop and make the contacts that will help later.

How far you can go in your career depends on a number of factors, including the organization you work for, the demand within your industry and how you manage your own career. Develop a strategic plan for getting ahead and reaching your goals, relying on your skills, talents, knowledge and network. If you do, you’ll contribute to closing the gender wage gap.
