2 Lessons I Learned About Car Insurance

I recently had a learning experience with car insurance. Sometimes there are things in life that we just don’t think about because they aren’t significant. This is one of those times when it was in fact significant.

Check Your Zip Code

I recently moved to a new zip code and had to update my car insurance. Apparently the zip code can make a big difference in the amount you have to pay. How significant. My 6th month premium went up $1000. That was a big shocker and was a little scary since I have a wedding coming up and that wasn’t exactly in any budget. So the lesson is, when moving, be sure to get a quote with your new location so you can budget for any changes.

Ask Around

With that sticker shock I decided to shop around a little bit and they all pretty much had the same pricing. So I was just about to bite the bullet and continue with the same company. That’s when my fiancé came home and said she mentioned our little problem to a few co-workers and one of them mentioned to try the company they have their car insurance with. I thought I did get a quote from them but tried it nonetheless and low and behold it was $700 cheaper than what my current insurance company had quoted me. The lesson is to ask around to see other peoples experiences and shop around more than you think is enough.

So now I have more money in my pocket and a wedding on budget. What could be better? Now I need to start looking into life insurance.

The Easiest Way To Do Taxes With Online Income

accounting

I went over this same product awhile ago when I talked about how I used it for my personal budget. At that point I was using it for the wrong purpose, this time I’m going to talk about how to use it for you online business.

Outright.com is the best, easiest, and most automated online accounting program I’ve ever used. It will automatically categorize your expenses based on where the purchase was made. It also gives you the chance to re-categorize either just that one expense or all of the expenses that match. And of course you can create your own categories.

It’s so easy to get everything organized.

When you first login to look over your expenditures it shows you a graph of the last 3 months expenditures and if you’re in the red or not. I love that, I can tell if I’m spending too much as soon as I get there.

On the left side it has 3 spots, 1 for your accounts, 1 for the money you need to collect, and 1 for the money you owe. It’s really a great overview of your business and it’s all on the first page.

Honestly, the best part about the whole program is that it automatically does the calculations for how much your quarterly taxes are, as well as yearly. Sweet! It even breaks down all of your expenses to make filing taxes a breeze.

It’s so simple and has a very clean interface. I highly recommend it for anyone with an online business that wants to make figuring out your taxes so much easier.

It used to be free but they just recently switched over to a monthly payment. Luckily I’m grandfathered in so I don’t have to start paying until next year (It’s good to be a grandfather :) ).

Anyways, it’s still well worth the $9.95 a month and I will pay that as soon as it’s my time.

They even offer a free 30 day trial so that you can see what it’s all about.

I couldn’t recommend it any more highly. It’s such a great product and I’d probably pay $25 a month for it, so it’s a steal.

Try Outright for Free

Ps I do get a couple of bucks for you signing up but I’d recommend it either way. This is just a plus :)

Have you used Outright before? What did you think of it?

What program do you use to keep track of your accounting?

Break Free From The 9 To 5 Grind

If you have full time employment, do you wake up full of enthusiasm for the next day – with an eagerness to get to your place of work? If you do, that’s fantastic, as you probably have found your true vocation. Sadly, for many of us, this simply isn’t the case. Work is a means to an end and the end is money that we can spend on a lifestyle that makes up for our lack of fulfilment at work.

When you consider your circle of friends and acquaintances, many may seem to have a very high quality of life. They earn a lot and spend a lot, which is all very well if the work they’re in is enjoyable. If not, it’s a fairly shallow existence to work all the hours possible so that they can spend it up at the weekend. Many people actually end up spending a lot at the weekend to get some satisfaction out of life that they’re not finding through their work. This means that the tie of work for the income becomes ever greater.

It’s not surprising then, that so many people are now in debt. Even those with great salaries tend to spend more than they can afford and then become slaves to their wages. If the income dropped, so would their standard and style of living.

If you find you’re working to simply to pay off debts, then maybe it’s time to reevaluate the way you spend. There is plenty of debt advice UK consumers can access online, and it can help to devise a debt management strategy to work your way clear of debt.

To get free from a nine to five existence you no longer enjoy, the first thing you need to do is clear the debt from your life. You can do this by using debt management plans, but also by reviewing how you spend your income. Do you really need to spend as much as you do on groceries, trips at the weekends, holidays?

Once you have got yourself into a position where you are living within your means, you can then decide if you want to stay on the treadmill of the job you have or look for a route to a more fulfilling occupation.
