Should I Buy This Book? Review: Spend Your Way To Wealth

I really like this book. The title pretty much sums up the book. It goes over how to save money by getting discounts on pretty much everything. It gives tip on:

  • Coupons
  • Negotiating on everything
  • Traveling
  • Buying a house
  • Shopping
  • Buying a car
  • Shopping on the internet

I found it really helpful. My favorite chapter is the last one because it goes over making goals and goes over how saving money takes work.

The negative

The only thing I really found negative was that the author doesn’t believe in budgets, and equates it to dieting. I can see where he’s coming from but I think that budgets are essential to having a solid finance life. But to each their own.

The Positive

Pretty much the whole book is a positive. There are tons of money saving tips for the various things I mentioned before. It does promote buying but it does save over and over that it’s not about buying stuff you don’t need. It’s about buying stuff you would buy anyway and saving money on it.

Would I Buy it?

Absolutely. It’s a great book and I learned a lot from it as far as savings go. I would recommend it for someone who wants to learn how to save money and negotiate prices. If you are having trouble sticking to a budget then his advice on not budgeting might before you. I’d at least try it to see if it works.

Should I Buy This Book? Review: Dating Your Money

DatingYourMoney I will say it’s an interesting book. It kinda scared me off a bit in the beginning by talking about The Secret. But as I read on it really turned into a great book about getting to know yourself and your relationship with money. I really like it because I feel like it gets into the mental aspect of people and money.

The Negative

Most of the beginning of each chapter kept talking about feeling….a little too much. There’s also an included money mood meter which I could not understand at all.

The Positive

It really dives into why you spend and how to change the way you view money. It can really help you out if you spend excessively. There’s also a lot of extra content on the authors site, so I thought that was pretty neat.

Would I Buy It?

No, but it’s a book aimed at the female demographic, so if I was then I would buy it. I did find it good and would recommend it for women out there that have a hard time getting control of their money.

Should I Buy This Book? Review: Easy Money

Easy Money Easy Money is a very thorough book. It’s written by Liz Weston, “The internets #1 personal finance expert” and a writer for MSN money. It’s pretty much a complete guide for finances, it goes over cutting your spending to retirement.

The Negative

I found it to be really boring. It really didn’t keep me wanting to read. I know personal finance isn’t the most exciting topic but still, it could have been better.

The Positive

It really has all the information you need to be covered in a personal finance book. My favorite chapter is called “Changing your uneasy mind”. It goes over several different thing people say to themselves like “I’ll never understand this money stuff” and “We’d be fine if our income was just a little higher”. As she goes over them Liz talks you out of saying them.

Would I Buy It?

Not really. It really didn’t interest me at all. I wouldn’t recommend it to beginners because it might turn you off. I’d probably recommend it as a desk reference. Something you could look back in if you needed a refresher.

Should I Buy This Book? Review: Student Entrepreneurs

Student Entrepreneurs I’m a big believer that you’re not truly financially sound until you control your own income. If someone can get rid of the money you bring in by simply saying “We don’t need you here anymore”, then your financially dependent. So I’m trying to educate myself to not let that happen to me.

Every once in a while I’ll be reviewing Entrepreneur/Business books I’m reading, so I can pass on to you which books to read and which ones not to.

This week it’s Student Entrepreneurs. It’s a book about 14 student entrepreneurs that have won a Global Student Entrepreneur Award. It’s basically a short bio on each student going over their first business and how they got into their current business. Along the way they give you a few pointers for you to succeed. What I got out of the book, but that you should already know, is that creating a successful business is hard work.  That’s pretty much sums up the books.

The Negative

Some of the stories were kinda boring and there were really only a few tips that I could use in my life. The first couple of stories I could have done with out.

The Positive

It is full of success stories, so it is somewhat inspirational. Even though they were few and far between, there were some good tips in there that I’m going to use in the future.

Would I buy It?

I don’t think so. The stories were ok but it just didn’t give me much value.

But if you want to give it a whirl since it’s pretty cheap:

Should You Buy This Book? Review: The Accidental Entrepreneur

The-Accidental-EntrepreneurAre you an accidental entrepreneur? Want to be? Entrepreneurism is the way to go especially in this day in age. I’m working on that dream by building websites. I’ve taken a skill set and read a lot to expand that skill set. Find a skill you’re good at and start building it and then find a way to sell your skills.

This book covers a lot of things that you’ll need to know in a very readable format. The subtitle of the book is “50 things I wish someone had told me about starting a business”. It really does a good job of laying out how to start a business and gives a lot of good ideas to make your business succeed. It covers everything from getting an idea to hiring people and all of the in between.

Should You Buy This Book?

If you’re thinking about starting your own business then for sure. It’s not really towards the online business crowd so I wouldn’t recommend it for that. It’s always good to learn from other people who have already gone through it.
